Hope Fully Counseling - Tom McSpadden

About Tom

Hi! I’m Tom.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and received an M.A. degree with high honors from Liberty University. Over the years I have been honored with the opportunity to work with individuals and families addressing difficult life situations, and also wonderful patients in a psychiatric hospital who were working through problematic disorders. Through a trusting, respectful and understanding relationship with my clients, and God’s grace, I have seen lives changed and hope restored. I have been married since 1978, and have three grown children and one grandchild.

My Approach

Sometimes life can become too difficult to deal with alone. At some point each and everyone of us could use help. It is my goal to ensure that your counseling experience is productive and life changing! I am committed to helping individuals, couples and families navigate through tough life situations and help them find hope, transformation and healing. Whether that feeling of being lost, hurt or broken is fueled by depression, grief, fear, anxiety, addiction or fractured relationships, my desire is to come alongside you and help you to gain new skills and insight and experience hope and healing.

As we work together, I will use specific evidence based counseling models, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR II Certified), Solution Focused Therapy, Family System, and the Gottman Method (Level 2 Gottman Method Couples Therapy certified). I use an approach to counseling that takes into account spiritual, psychological, social, and biological dimensions. We will examine obstacles and events in your life that may prevent you from moving forward, along with relational patterns and thought processes that may be negatively impacting your life.

For my clients who are experiencing significant work related pressures, I offer additional insight gained working many years in a demanding professional environment. Those experiences provided me the opportunity to work with the Federal Aviation Administration and a major airline addressing mental health needs of pilots and their families. Unfortunately, like some aviators, unrealistic professional or personal life expectations can be a stumbling block for getting the help we need and to feel a genuine hope that life can be better!

I have a sincere passion to help you remove any barriers to getting the help you need. My desire is to meet you where you are in life and build a trusting and honest relationship that leads to healing and a better life!
