Addiction comes in many forms but always affects more than just one person. It is a complex issue as it can change how a person's brain works in such a way that they interact with the world, and those around them, differently because of something outside of themselves.

Addiction isn't just not being able to stop doing or using something. There are other elements of addiction to consider, such as increasing tolerance and dulled reaction, or the exponentially growing need for something (meaning the problem gets bigger and harder each day that passes). Then there is withdrawal and its symptoms to consider. The solution isn't always, "Just stop doing that." Depending on the addiction, stopping cold turkey can actually be very bad for a person and even lethal in some cases.

If you or someone you know is suffering from addiction it is important that you get help.

The thought of breaking an addiction pattern can seem daunting and sound terrible, which is partially why many people feel very alone with their addiction. If you feel alone, trapped or hopeless, it is very important that you read this next bit:

You are not alone. You are not trapped. You can get out of this.
